Dr Barrowman has a special interest in orthopaedic surgery and has been fixing broken bones and torn ligaments in dogs cats rabbits and birds for several decades. We have a very comprehensive range of brand new orthopaedic surgical equipment including a Stryker drill, Stryker pin drivers and a Stryker oscillating saw.

Dental disease is the most common clinical condition in cats and dogs over the age of three. Regular dental care is an important part of preventative health care in pets as it is with ourselves.

Our high-quality X-ray equipment in combination with our human quality ultrasound machine means that we can obtain very accurate views of the inside of your pet without causing them any pain or harm.

We have a completely dedicated sterile surgery room with protocols in place for the very highest level of sterility. We use hospital gowns masks hats and gloves during all surgical procedures. All our surgical equipment is sterilised in one of the very latest technology sterilisers available on the market.

As there are continuing to be significant advances in human imaging technology this flows through into the veterinary arena. We are now able to provide both CT and MRI imaging of your pets. These highly complex imaging systems are now available right here in Rotorua.

We provide your pets that need to stay with us and our hospital with a separate dedicated cat ward and a separate dedicated dog ward. These areas are air-conditioned to keep your pets warm and comfortable.

Our dogs and cats can unfortunately suffer from heart disease. Initially we listen to their heart, and check their pulse and blood pressure. We are then able to take x-rays of your pets chest and echocardiography of their heart and we also perform ECGs.

Dr Anna Goodman has a special interest in ophthalmology (eyes). Supported by our advanced diagnostic equipment, all eye related conditions can be diagnosed and options discussed.

In house we have the Abaxis blood machine. This enables us to do range of complex blood analysis.

Our new Olympus CX23 microscope offers a 4 x up to a 100 x oil immersion magnification allowing us to visualize the larger skin mites such as demodex right down to the smallest bacteria such as staphylococcus (see images). This is very important for us to allow us to work up all itchy skin cases properly.

Jacqui will be offering full herbal consultations at Barrowman Goodman. With a deep interest in Holistic Veterinary Medicine, Jacqui has attained a Diploma in Western Veterinary Herbal Medicine through the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies. “After 30 years in practice, I have seen that in a role that complementary medicine can play, particularly in the treatment of chronic conditions”.
